Do you know that your higher self can answer any questions you ask, leading you to the right path that you are born with? Humans find it hard to understand things they cannot see and touch in the 3D world, including the concept of a “higher self”. Is she god you may ask? No, but she is within you and is connected to god or the universe (whichever name you have for the highest power).
I have not regretted a moment since I started aligning myself with my higher self she is the reason why I created Wondefull to share and inspire you about wellness and productivity.
Below I will explain what is your higher self, how she can help you to be more aligned with your purpose, and how you can strengthen your link with her. Let’s continue reading.
What is your higher self?
Contrary to the myth, the higher self is not just for spiritual gurus and meditators who have been on spiritual journeys for decades. She exists within us but we barely pay attention to her. Why? Because most of us are focused on the material world, chasing after success that we perceive will bring us joy and fulfillment.
When we get into trouble, we often seek advice and help from others like friends and family, coaches, therapists, and many more. We take in the information and opinions, trying to rationalize the situation and come up with the best answer.
But in many cases, the answer that we thought we found just didn’t sit right within us until we heard an inner soft-spoken voice sharing the things we had never thought of but instantly enlightened us. That’s your higher self speaking to you.
The truth is most of the time we know the answer already. The one holding the truth that we are seeking is our higher self which is unencumbered by ego (we will cover this in a later part). Some call her soul. She’s the non-material dimension of you that’s part of the universe and is beyond time and space.
She is the source of wisdom who has your best interest at heart. No one loves you more than her, and she is waiting for you to be conscious of your connection with her.
Why connect to your higher self?
Your higher self knows everything about you – why you are here, what your mission is, and what you need to do to live a fulfilled life.
“The universe is not outside of you. Look inside yourself, everything that you want you already are.”
– Rumi
Other than answering all your questions and guiding you to the right path, connecting to your higher self also brings benefits:
- Increased inner peace
- Improved focus and clarity
- Emotional stability
- Ability to manifest faster
- Enhanced creativity and many more
When you are in a state of wholeness, you feel joy. Like attracts like and you will be able to inspire more kindness and goodness in life.
Ego – the blocker between you and your higher self
The ego is the conscious sense of self. Unlike the higher self which speaks only with language of love, the ego is reactive, fear-driven, and impulsive.
“Wake up, you lazy pig.”
“Cycle harder, don’t you want to look good in front of your crush?”
“This is their fault, not mine!”
“You need to earn the most among your peers.”
These are all coming from the ego. The ego can never have enough. She only cares for herself and is short-sighted.
Undoubtedly, ego helps ensure that society is progressing in the modern world. But often it gets too overbearing, becoming a worm that digs holes in your heart and erodes your peace and true fulfillment.
On the other side, your higher self only wants you to experience itself through you. She is grateful, self-aware, takes her accountability, and believes that she can create a different reality. And she is who you really are. In fact, you are connected to your higher self to some extent. But ego often gets in the way of the connection between you and your higher self.
That’s why you couldn’t sense your higher self and be the true version of yourself. The more your ego is allowed to thrive in your life, the more corroded the link to your higher self. But do you have to kill the ego?
The answer is No.
It helps us to fit in this society and socialize with people around us because most of them are operating from their ego. That’s how they understand the world. Now that ego has fulfilled her purpose by ensuring our survival and helping us achieve success along the way, we are ready to evolve to another stage.
“Light must come from inside. You cannot ask the darkness to leave; you must turn on the light.”
— Sogyal Rinpoche
The more you communicate with your higher self, the less booming your ego’s voice becomes in your head. This is when your life gets back on purpose because your higher self is finally steering the wheel. You are on a journey of self-actualization, experiencing and becoming what you should be here for.
Ways to connect with higher self
Strengthening the connection with your higher self takes time. It is important to be compassionate towards yourself and don’t rush things. Lastly, believe in her and yourself.
Meditating
While meditating, you are sitting in silence. It helps block out external sensory stimulation as much as possible so that you can focus and hear your higher self talking to you.
You can imagine her as your best friend sitting in front or beside you. Or you can imagine yourself surrounded by warm, loving energy. Go with whatever presentation of her that suits you!
The best time to meditate is either in the morning or before sleep. I always do it in the morning, and here’s a guide on how to practice morning meditation.
Journaling / Writing
Penning your questions and answers down in a journal is effective as you can revisit the conversation easily after the session.
Don’t overthink, just write down whatever comes up. As time goes on, you will soon experience automatic writing which the conversation between you and your higher self takes place naturally.
How to know if the voice is from your higher self?
You might face resistance while trying to understand and align yourself with your higher self. It is because we have been deeply conditioned by our ego, limiting beliefs and fears. Those are what the mind tells you so that you can stay safe, but you will never be liberated. So, how do we discern between the ego and the higher self?
The ego strives to make us believe that we are defined by our body, our thoughts, and our past. The higher self disregards those as they make us unloved and vulnerable. She wants you to have a strong sense of self, only you can define who you are. I urge you to welcome the realization with joy and excitement. Once you break free from the limited sense of self, your identity starts to expand.
Building trust between you and your higher self takes time. While you are gradually changing your perspective and mindset after communicating with your higher self, you start living a life that you have not lived before. Strangely it feels easy because It is how you should be living.
That is the moment of truth, knowing that the one you have been communicating with is truly your higher self. And here are some other signs that could show you that you are aligned with your higher self:
- You are grateful for life, even if it is just a small thing.
- You take full responsibility for your responses to people and circumstances.
- You know that you are not defined by your body, mind, and your past.
- Emotions flow through you and don’t imprison you.
- People love your company and actively seek to be around you.
- You are not afraid of rejection, failure, and death.

You might have multiple questions to ask in one session. Let your higher self answer each question immediately. Don’t think too much of the answers that come up, go along with the flow.
If you don’t feel that you can answer, you might have suppressed whatever is coming up. Take some deep breaths, and don’t pay attention to your ego self which judges you and tells you not to believe in your higher self.
From a Q&A session, you will soon find yourself having a conversation with your higher self.
What to do after you get the answers from your higher self?
Once you get the answers through meditation, note them down in your meditation journal or life planner. If you are connecting with your higher self through writing, you have already made this step clear. 👍By noting it down, you can take your time to reflect on the conversation and keep track of your progress.
Sometimes the answer might not make sense when it comes in, but it will make sense to you down the road. Your higher self might even tell you that it is not the right time to have the answer yet. Believe in her, and continue living your life as her.
“Your mind knows only some things. Your inner voice, your instinct, knows everything. If you listen to what you know instinctively, it will always lead you down the right path.”
– Henry Winkler
Connecting with your higher self doesn’t require you to become another person as she is you. You just have to unblock the layers of conditioning done by the ego and society and start being your higher self.
If you are beginning to connect with your higher self or have been doing it for some time, I’m more than eager to hear your experiences in the comments below. Lastly, I wish you all the best in your journey, may you live the true sense of self.
